A lakeside paradise is shattered by past crimes rising from the ashes of an ancient village.
A small tribe of Cherokee Indians is swindled out of its heritage lands to make way for a massive reservoir system. An arsonist starts a fire that claims scores of lives but spares an infant spirited away in the dark.
Years later these incendiary secrets pass through the remorseful lips of a dying man, sending Jonathan Sinclair Austen on a frantic search for justice as mysterious killings multiply and he discovers that he could be next.
A former Army Ranger, Sin must rely on his investigative and survival skills to unravel a series of dead ends and dead bodies. He faces the daunting task of honoring a deathbed promise to bring a killer to justice and find a nameless infant rescued from tragedy. A powerful company and teams of hired guns challenge his progress. Betrayed by those closest to him, he attracts new allies in his quest for the truth.
Sin Austen is relentless and resourceful.
He just may be unstoppable.
The Last Raven A Sin Austen Novel The Lake Keowee Trilogy Book 1 edition by John Michael Shanahan Literature Fiction eBooks
The plot of this thriller is all that one could hope for and even though it is the first volume in a trilogy the loose ends were not bothersome. What did upset me was the style...the book simply did not flow! I felt the author reciting every single word and explaining every scene rather than immersing myself into the tale. Not even the sex scenes were really passionate! The combination of the head of a security firm combined with the needs of a Cherokee tribe (totally contemporary) made for a compelling tale. If only the characters hadn't been wooden! Perhaps an edit could save it.

The Last Raven A Sin Austen Novel The Lake Keowee Trilogy Book 1 edition by John Michael Shanahan Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
A very good read. Interesting characters. The story moved along very nicely. I would certainly recommend this book to my friends. I look forward to the next installment.
I absolutely loved this book! Best book I read in a good while. It kept me interested from start to finish, wonderful captivating story that was very well written. I would highly recommend this book, can't wait for the sequel.
Could be an easier read, but liked reading how utility company worked and how American Indians won in the end.
Shanahan is a writer with imagination and skill. His characters are strong and believable. The novel is full of action and is a worthwhile read.
The Last Raven is a well written fiction story that takes place in the northwestern portion of South Carolina. I live in the area and found author John Shanahan's descriptions to be very accurate except for a couple of minor errors that few will even notice. The book focuses on Keowee Town, a settlement of the Cherokee Indians and the author is factual in his description that the village was flooded by the manmade creation that is now Lake Keowee. What happens in the book after the lake was built is fictional but still mesmerizing. The story Mr. Shanahan weaves made me stay with the book until well past my bedtime during the three evenings when I read it. It made me wonder if, in fact, the story could turn out to be true if certain events play out in reality.
Author Shanahan's character development is terrific and the dialogue outstanding. The love scenes in the book seem unnecessary to the plot and, sadly, make this an adult-only read even though it makes up only a minor part of this very good book.
I highly recommend The Last Raven to adults who enjoy historical fiction about the Cherokee Indians and//or Upstate South Carolina.
This book has mystery, romance, history, Indianlore---all the components I like best in a book. I like the way the author fleshed out the characters into believable people, and left an opening for more books in the series.
Several other reviewers have said it more eloquently than I could. Once I started the book on the holiday weekend I couldn't do anything else until I finished it and then I didn't want it to end. Deserves more than 5 stars if that was possible.
